VISA/Immigration


Special Visa and Airline Information


It is not necessary to have visa for Bhutan issued before a flight ticket is booked. Bhutanese visa is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If you are not able to purchase the tickets locally through your travel agent, you can purchase your ticket online on the websites of DrukAir (www.drukair.com.bt) and Bhutan Airlines (www.bhutanairlines.bt) who are the only wo carriers flying to/from Bhutan. The connecting ports are Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Kolkata, Guawahati, Bangdora, Delhi (India), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Kathmandu (Nepal). But there may not be daily flights. Please check the carriers' websites. Other options are:


a) You can co-ordinate with the SANOG XXXIII secretariat at the end of November, 2018. They may also assist you to purchase the tickets.


c) You can also book/buy tickets through your travel agents.


For residents of Nepal, India and Bangladesh, you can purchase tickets locally. In case of confusion, please write to sanog33secretariat@bt.bt


Visa / Immigration


Royal Government of Bhutan enforces on valid passports and an entry visa. An approved visa by Bhutan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs to to produced at the check-in of flight to Bhutan. It is possible that check-in counter could also have a copy of your visa. So make sure you apply for visa process early by filling up the visa form and sending to the SANOG XXIII host email addresses listed below. Host will process and send you the approved visa over email.

Bangladesh, Maldivians & Indian nationals does not require producing visa while coming to Bhutan. But you should carry vaild passport or citizenship ID card. Valid voter ID card is also accepted for Indians.


At your port of entry your visa will be stamped in your passport on payment of US$ 40. You are recommended to carry exact change with you as there may not be change available at the counter. And further please do carry unmarked / clean notes i.e. no pen or pencil marking on the notes you pay for visa. You will also require two passport photos. Extension of visas, for up to 6 months, can be obtained in Thimphu at a cost of Nu.510
